Joyce Marie World Turner Pippin was born September 17, 1938 to Joshua World Turner and Leafia Pearl Drapeau. Joyce died Friday, December 18, 2020 at Tyler Continual Care Hospital in Tyler, TX.

Joyce was raised in the Choteau Creek area. She attended St. Paul's Indian Mission in Marty, SD. After high school she relocated to the Dallas, TX area where she lived the remainder of her life. While in Dallas, Joyce attended and completed a beautician course at Texas Beauty College and received her certification as a hair stylist. She successfully operated and maintained her own beauty shop "Joyce's Hair Salon" for many years.

Joyce married James "Sam" Smith in Dallas, TX. They were married for twenty years before Sam passed on. Together they adopted and raised their son Richard Allen Smith. After Sam's passing Joyce met Thomas "Morris" Pippin and they married in 1993. They moved to Miller Grove, TX where they became cattle ranchers for the next ten years. Joyce had names for her 100+ cows and talked to them daily. It was hard for her to give up ranching.

Joyce was a very generous, thoughtful, loving and caring person. Her place and role here in this world can never be filled. Every Christmas she would appear with a carload of presents for her younger brothers and sisters. Christmas was her favorite time of the year.

Joyce loved to pow-wow and traveled every season from Texas to South Dakota to attend Ft. Randall traditional Wacipi and later added the traditional Greenwood Pow-Wow Wacipi where she sponsored a woman's traditional dance contest in memory of her mother Leafia Drapeau Hare. She donated many times to each of these two traditional Wacipi's.

Joyce loved her family very much and provided many times for the needs of those family members. Her generosity included homes, vehicles, business opportunities and many other requests.

Joyce leaves behind her brothers: Herb Hare Sr., Louis Dale Hare Sr. and Wesley Allen Hare Jr.; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
