Kenneth Sorenson, 77, of Lake Andes
Kenneth died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Services are 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, rural Armour. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Kenneth Harvey Sorenson was born November 21, 1941 in Wagner, SD the son of Harvey and Ruby (Ishmael) Sorenson. He died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Kenneth attended school in Ravinia, SD. He met Elaine Hill and they were married in Yankton on December 9, 1960. Six children were born to this union.
Kenneth farmed, did custom farm work, and did trucking with his father for over 50 years. He also milked cows for 20 years. Over the years he worked as a janitor at Andes Central School, was garbage man at Pickstown, drove truck for the Corsica Implement, and worked at the Ravinia Elevator. He also worked at Alco in Wagner for 10 years. He drove school bus for Rocs in Lake Andes for 10 years. Kenneth did all these jobs while continuing to farm.
Kenneth will be remembered for his love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved riding the 4-wheeler and sharing rides with the grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed taking his kids to the 4-H rodeos, Achievement Days and the State Fair. Kenneth loved to hunt and go to auction sales. He played softball with the Ravinia Boars in his younger days. Upon retiring, he bought old tractors and restored them.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Elaine of Lake Andes, six children: Bruce (Mary) Sorenson of Yuma, AZ, Norma (Robert) Slaba of Pierre, Charlotte (Kevin) Pool of New Ulm, MN, Diane (Kendall) Wiechmann of Parkston, Kenneth Sorenson of Lake Andes, and Denise (Colin) Dutenhoffer of Aberdeen; 23 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; sister Elaine Bechen of Lake Andes, brother Russell (June) Sorenson of Rapid City; sister-in-law Cynthia Sorenson of Watertown; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Kasey and Joy Rose; brother Robert; and brother-in-law Vincent Bechen, Jr.
