Lahoma was raised by her Grandma and Grandpa Sand along the Moreau River on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe where she enjoyed riding her horses and playing with her pet skunk, raccoon, bobcat and magpie. She loved animals and enjoyed being outdoors.

Lahoma married Clifford Johnson on April 28,1962. They made their home in Sisseton, South Dakota and South Sioux City, Nebraska but would become a long time resident of Wagner, South Dakota.

Lahoma worked many years as a teachers aide, dorm matron, EMT and many years at the Fort Randall Casino where she was considered one of the originals.  She enjoyed being around people and being busy.
