Larry Talsma, 70, of Springfield
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield. Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Faith, Hope and Love Church in Creighton, NE. Burial with Military Honors will be at 2 PM, Friday at the Pioneer Cemetery, rural Springfield.
Larry Alvin Talsma was born on February 19, 1947 on the home place west of Springfield to Ray and Donia (Unruh) Talsma. He passed away 70 years later on May 1, 2017 at his home with his family around him.
Larry was raised in the Bon Homme County area and came from a large family. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1965. The following year, Larry was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corp. He served 13 months in Vietnam. Following his service, Larry came back to the home he was raised in on the home place.
On August 4, 1973, Larry married Georgia DeBoer at the Talsma Ranch. Two children were blessed to their union: Ty R and Tanya Lyn.
Larry had a special gift with horses. He started a business training and showing performance horses. Larry loved hunting with his nephews and working cows and horses with his children and grandchildren.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Georgia; son Ty and wife Kristin (Nielsen) who were married August 28, 2004, from Verdigre, NE; three grandchildren: Terran, Treyvan and Gianna Leone; his brothers: Merle of Gregory; John and wife Gladys and Pete and wife Tommie, all of Springfield; and Bob and wife Mary of Norfolk, NE; his sisters: Joyce Lukkes of Springfield; Molly Nichols of Wray, CO, Rose Adema of Winthrop, MN; and Lyla Brandt and husband Dennis of Avon. Loving and missing Larry also are many special nephews and nieces; sisters-in-law: Margo Heinert and husband Bob of Ft. Pierre; Dotty and husband Scott Hieb and brother-in-law Donn and wife Nancy DeBoer of Chamberlain.
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter Tanya on May 18, 1993; parents; and other relatives.
