Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial is in the church cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation will be at the church on Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 PM. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.

Lauren C. Meiers was born February 23, 1923 at Avon, SD, the son of George and Claire (Van Duysen) Meiers. He died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall. He attained the age of 94 years, four months and 26 days.

Lauren attended school through the eighth grade north of Avon. He then stayed home and helped his father on the farm.

Lauren married Sylvia Kocmick on November 4, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. They were blessed with six children and 70 years of marriage.

Lauren loved farming and raised cattle and hogs. He was a very good welder and could fix anything.

Lauren was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder, usher and trustee for many years. He also served on the Farmers Home Administration board for many years.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Sylvia of Avon; two daughters: Patti Pier of Carbondale, CO and Carla (Gary) Sternhagen of Douglas, WY; two sons: Keith Meiers, Volin, SD and Scott (Bonnie) Meiers, Avon, SD; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister Darlene Bye of Dell Rapids; three sisters-in-law: Dona Meiers of Avon, Donna Meiers of Huron and Emma Kocmick of Omaha; and brother-in-law, Earl Schuemaker of Minneapolis, MN.

Lauren was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald Meiers; daughter Jacqueline Tlamka; granddaughter Brandy Sternhagen; two sons-in-law, Jan Pier and Bob Tlamka; five brothers: Arnold, LaVelle, Glenn, Jr. and LeRoy Meiers; and two sisters: Lorene Kicklighter and Maureen Hassen.
