Leon Gene Bettelyoun was born in Deadwood, SD on November 22, 1973, to Gary Guy Bettelyoun and Joyce Blaine. He died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Sanford Care Center in Vermillion.

Leon lived with his family until he was four years old, from 1973 until 1976. He lived a SDSVH from 1976 until 1979. From 1979 until 1982 he attended Oak Hill School in Hartford, CT. He moved to the Crippled Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls from 1982 to 1983. He lived in the SDSVH from 1983 to 1984 and the SDDC in Custer from 1984 to 1996. From 1996 until present he moved to LifeQuest in Mitchell, where he resided at the Gamble Street Apartments. Leon enjoyed the friendships he had made in Mitchell: LifeQuest staff and housemates at the GSA, Tim and Tom Koch from the Cornerstone Baptist Church, he was an honorary member of the Mitchell Fire Department-was known best for stopping by and treating employees at the department with treats, etc., Mrs. Christiansen's 4th grade class from Longfellow Elementary, and Maryl Hatwan-his guardian and friend.

Leon will be remembered for the sound effects he made, his giggle, trusting, leaning towards those he liked when he knew they were there, his spirit, calm personality, sense of humor, sweet tooth, being a simple man, easy going and being good natured.
