Obituary

Leona Kocmich, 83, of Avon
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. Burial is in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, rural Dante. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 5 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Avon. Rosary/Wake services are 7 PM, Tuesday at the church.
Leona A. Kocmich, daughter of Roy and Ida (Storey) Caldwell, was born September 1, 1928 at Wagner, SD. She died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. Leona attained the age of 83 years, six months and 17 days.
Leona grew up in the Wagner area and graduated from Ravinia High School in 1946. She married John C. Kocmich on September 12, 1949, at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. They were blessed with five children. Together they farmed in the Dante area and raised their family. They retired and moved into Avon in 1989. John died August 23, 2003. Due to failing health, Leona entered the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner in January of 2011.
Leona was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church and St. Mary's Altar Society.
Leona enjoyed embroidery work, playing cards with family, watching Polka Joe on TV, reading, doing word searches and having cookies in the cookie jar for her grandkids and great grandkids. She will be especially remembered for her love for her children and grandchildren. One way Leona showed this was by making a quillt for each of them.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Kathy Woodward and husband, Ronny of Pisgah, IA; Mark and wife Tanya of Spearfish; Kevin and Kathy of Tecumseh, NE; John Greg and wife Lori of Dante; and Lisa Vaccaro and husband Brent of Atlanta, GA; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers:Myron, Glenn and Merle; and two sisters: Vivian and Helen.
