Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Wagner, with Curtis Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of L.D.S. officiating. Burial will be in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be at Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner on Thursday from 4 to 7, with the family present from 6 to 7.
Lorene M. Gullikson, daughter of Fredrick and Evelyn (Arconge) Schmidt, was born March 29, 1920 at White Swan, SD near Lake Andes. She died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital. Lorene attained the age of 95 years, nine months and 29 days.
Lorene graduated from high school in Wahpeton, ND. She then worked at St. John's Hospital in Rapid for three years during World War II. She moved to Wagner and began her 31 year career working at the Public Health Hospital.
Upon moving to Wagner, Lorene met and married Thomas Edward "Ed" Gullikson on May 17, 1946 at his parents home in Wagner. Two children were blessed to their union. Ed died February 16, 2001.
Lorene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Community Hospital Auxiliary.
In her early years, Lorene enjoyed beading, but was known for crocheting all of her life. She was always so proud and thankful that her family was a loving and happy family. Her family was her first priority and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Lorene will also be remembered for her sincere kindness to everyone.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Kenny and wife Peggy of Lake Andes and Evelyn Yanez of Wagner; three grandchildren: Heather Rouse, Luke Yanez and Vanessa Iverson and husband Cullen, all of Wagner; six great grandchildren: Echo, Blair, Leon, Mia, Acaiya and Talib; three great-great grandchildren: Mason, Cooper and Teagan; one brothers, Robert Schmidt and wife Carol of Oklahoma; and dear relatives and friends.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Ed; parents; a brother, Vernon Schmidt; and a sister, Eleanor Burnette.
