Loretta Houska, 69, of Wagner
Loretta died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall. Funeral services are 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation is Tuesday from 10 AM until service time.
Loretta Marie Houska was born north of Avon, SD on May 25, 1940, the daughter of Clarence and Alvina (Engel) Eckert.
Loretta was baptized on May 25, 1940 and confirmed on December 30, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon.
Loretta graduated from Avon High School in 1959. She attended one year of college at Springfield and taught one year at a country school.
Loretta was united in marriage to Lloyd Houska on April 7, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Together they farmed, raising cows, chickens, geese, ducks, sheep, cats and dogs. They also sold eggs, milk and cream.
Loretta enjoyed crafts and painting ceramics.
Thankful for having shared her life are her brother, Victor and wife Doris Eckert of Avon; niece, Cindy and husband Wes Sassaman of Avon; two nephews: Mark and wife Brenda Eckert of Florida and Bruce Eckert of Florida; and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and in-laws.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents; and three brothers: Rodney, Earnest and Albert, who all died in infancy.
