Lorna Faye Finck, 84 of Tabor
Faye died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Danzig Baptist Church, rural Avon, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Lorna Faye Finck, daughter of Platt and Lorna (Guptill) Halsey, was born July 31, 1926 on a farm near Kingsburg, SD. She died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton. Faye attained the age of 84 years, nine months and eight days.
Faye grew up on a farm near Springfield and attended country school. She graduated from Springfield High School at age 16 and then attended Southern Normal College for one year, earning her teaching certificate. Faye taught for a few years in several Bon Homme country schools.
Faye married Calvin Finck on May 22, 1947, at the Congregational Church in Springfield. Together they farmed near Tyndall most of their lives and also spend three years working near Lodi, CA. Four children were blessed to their union. Calvin and Faye enjoyed celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007. Calvin died April 9, 2008.
Faye was an avid reader and loved being involved in her children and grandchildren's music and sports activities. She also enjoyed using her gift of hospitality as a way to serve others.
Faye and Calvin enjoyed helping others through prison ministries, 5-Day Clubs and teaching Sunday School classes. They also served as short-term missionaries to France while visiting their family.
Faye trusted Christ early in her life and remained faithful to her Lord.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Konrad and wife Cindy of Winfield, IL, Kayleen Bobbitt and husband Bill of Comstock Park, MI, Jerry and wife June of rural Avon, and Joel and wife LInda of rural Tabor; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Boese of Tyndall; one brother Ken Halsey of Spearfish; and many relatives and friends.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers: Walter and Ronald.
