Madonna Fitzgerald, 92

  Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Peters Funeral Home in Wagner. Inurnment is in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner.

Madonna Frances Fitzgerald was born March 13, 1934 at Wagner, SD the daughter of Francis and Velma (Barnard) Fitzgerald. She died June 20, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall.

Madonna graduated from Wagner high School in 1953. She then worked as a nanny for the Quinn family in Chicago from 1959-1966. She also worked for Northwestern University during part of this time. Madonna worked from 1967 -1983 as a cashier and customer service rep for Beneficial Finance. She then worked for Merrill Lynch until she retired. Madonna later moved back to Wagner to be near her family.

Madonna will be remembered for her love of cats and horses. She really enjoyed family get togethers.

Thankful for having shared her life are her brother-in-law Derald “Charlie” Engel of Wagner; sister-in-law Jan Fitzgerald of Mitchell; niece Shannon (Richard) Hansen of Sioux Falls; and three nephews: Todd Engel of Wagner, Brian (Jennifer) Fitzgerald of TX and Sean (Karen) Fitzgerald of TX.

Madonna was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Fitzgerald and sister, Kathleen “Butch” Engel.
