Marian Ruby Voigt, daughter of Gus and Linda (Buchholz) Siewert, was born January 8, 1929 at Naper, NE. She died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at her home in rural Avon on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Marian attained the age of 83 years, 10 months and 10 days.
Marian was a graduate of Avon High School. She received her teaching degree from Southern State College in Springfield and then taught at the James and Mawhinney Country Schools.
Marian married Harlen A. "Bud" Voigt at her parents' home in rural Avon on May 25, 1950. Nine children were blessed to their union.
Marian was a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
As a son puts it: "Mom provided a daily example of what it means to believe in Jesus Christ and to follow Him with all your heart.
She had unwavering faith no matter the circumstances and would remind her children time after time that 'God is in control!' These words were lived out in every situation, and brought such a sense of God's safety and security to her family. Mom's tender heart expressed itself in 61 years of marriage to Dad and in her love for her children and grandchildren. She also loved growing roses and watching and feeding birds in her backyard. She spent many precious moments caring for her beloved dog, Rex.
Paging through Mom's Bible, one discovered how great a passion she had for teaching children God's Word. She was also very sure that her students wrote out their Bible verse so that it would stick in their minds!
Mom's faith, her marriage, and her family were of greatest importance to her. She left us with her footprints, side by side with Jesus."
Marian was a member of the Danzig Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and played the piano and organ. She also was a member of the Women's Missionary Fellowship and the American Legion Auxillary.
