Mark Willliam Mengenhauser, oldest child of George and DeVeta (Parnell) Mengenhauser, was born November 4, 1955 at Mitchell, SD. He attended grade school at Holy Family Elementary and was a 1974 graduate of Mitchell High School. Mark then attended Mitchell Technical Institute where he earned his power lineman degree.
Mark married Cindy Miller at the Church of Epiphany in Epiphany, SD on November 13, 1976. Four daughters were blessed to their union.
Mark began his career as a power lineman at Charles Mix Electric in May of 1976. In 1986, he became the manager (The Boss) and served in that position until his retirement in January of 2015.
Mark was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Randall Hills Country Club, ACRE, JUTTS Committee, MAC committee, Reed Board, and SD Managers Association.
Mark loved life! Here are some of his loves: cooking, especially for holidays; farming, harvesting, and working cattle with his long-time friend, Terry Svatos; golf trips to Minnesota; annual fishing trips with local buddies; playing cards, especially the Geddes Pitch League; providing daily "news" at the local elevator; watching the Dallas Cowboys, Notre Dame and the Cubs; listening to Louie L'amour audio books; watching old westerns and Hallmark Christmas movies; following his girls as they participated in their sports careers; assisting with the coaching in shot and disc at Andes Central; and playing softball and baseball.
Mark's life was spent enjoying his family, kids, grandkids, friends and his two dogs, Trampus and Bentley. His "dream come true" was when he purchased his retirement farm in 2013. He cherished teaching his grandkids how to feed the bottle calves, mow with the riding mower, pick eggs, feed the chickens, tractor rides, fun on hay bales, shoot the BB guns and drive his red hot Mule. Mark loved living life to the fullest... he always had a way to make everyone smile.
In 2004, Mark's health began to fail and in January of 2008, he received a heart transplant. Mark died unexpectedly Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Douglas Co. Memorial Hospital in Armour. Mark attained the age of 60 years and two months and 29 days.
