His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, rural Armour, with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7, with the family present from 6 to 7 at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Marvin M. Petrik, son of John and Emma (Bartunek) Petrik, was born May 24, 1936 on a farm near Wagner, SD. He died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital. Marvin attained the age of 78 years, one month and 26 days.
Marvin received his grade school education at Kennedy Township Country School and graduated from Ravinia High School. He then joined the National Guard.
Marvin married Theola Meirose on June 11,1958 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Three children were born to their union. After their marriage, Marvin and Theola began farming south of Armour. He was named "Outstanding Young Farmer" in 1969. Marvin also worked as a crop adjuster. In 1989, Marvin and Theola began traveling to Arizona for the winter and continued until 2006.
Marvin will be remembered for his love of farming and "tinkering" in the shed.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Theola for 56 years; son Dan and fiancee Betty Lippert of Yankton; daughter LeaAnn Riggs and husband Kenneth of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren: Jason Petrik, Nick Petrik, Jenny Hohensee, Taylor Riggs and Case Riggs; five great grandchildren: Addison Petrik, Rilynn Hohensee, Mazie Petrik and Madilynn Hohensee; sister-in-law, Marlene Petrik of rural Wagner and her family; and many friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Beverly Jean; his parents; sister Marcella Petrik; and brother Donald Petrik.
