Mary Halsey, 94, of Springfield

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the United Church of Christ in Springfield, SD. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Peters Funeral Chapel in Springfield.

Mary Loree Halsey, daughter of Mark and Alta Walker was born December 1, 1928 at the home of an Aunt near Pierce, NE.  Returning home to a farm near Vetal, SD, she attended Peck Country School and 3 years at Bennett County High School, Martin, SD, graduating from Springfield High School in 1946. She attended Southern State College at Springfield and taught in rural schools in Bennett and Bon Homme Counties for 3 years. Mary married Ronald Halsey on September 5, 1948 at Tyndall, SD.

As well as assisting Ron on the farm, she was a secretary at USD/S for 14 years. When they retired from farming, she became a crop insurance adjuster along with her husband. Mary enjoyed family, friends, traveling and country music. She was a member of the UCC Church in Springfield and past member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Mary died October 25,  2023 at Prairie Healthcare Nursing Home in Woonsocket, SD. She is survived by her son Gene (Karen) Halsey of Huron, SD, daughters: Lynne (Lad) Kocer of Gering, NE and Amy Halsey of Lander WY; seven grandchildren: Kris Halsey, Travis (Rachel) Halsey, Amanda Halsey and fiance Tanner Stoops, Laurie (Clint) Davis, Sara (Bryan) Schwartz, Adam (Niki) Kocer, and Laine Halsey; great grandchildren: Lydia, Simeon, Lucas, Berea, McKinlee, Cash, Anniston, Emersyn, and Kaylor; and one brother-in-law Kenneth (Erin) Halsey.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ron, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
