Her funeral service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Monday from 12 noon to 7 pm at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner, followed by a prayer service.
Mary A. Novak, daughter of James and Marie (Ober) Holec.was born November 23, 1915 on a farm near Wagner, SD. She died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Mary attained the age of 92 years and nine months.
Mary attended Choteau Creek #5 Country School through the eighth grade.
Mary married Joe J. Novak on February 25,1935 at the Presbyterian Church northeast of Wagner. Three children were blessed to their union: Maxine, Robert and Leo.They farmed south of Dante on the original homestead, until their retirement in 1970. They then made their home in Wagner. Joe died September 9, 2000.
Mary served as a school board member of the Rouse #4 Country School.
Mary enjoyed baking, playing cards, gardening and visiting.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Maxine Schuldt and husband, John of Burlington, IA; Robert and wife, Agnes of Yankton; and Leo and wife, Ruth of Wagner; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, William and wife, Mildred of Rapid City; two sisters: Gladys Metteer and husband, Harold of Sebeka, MN and Norma Reinschmidt and husband, Doyle of Wagner; three sisters-in-law: Phyllis Holec of Denver, CO, Mildred Holec of Yankton, and Rita Holec of Tyndall; and many relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers: Emil, Edward, Ernie and Stanley; one sister, Adeline Meyers; and one infant granddaughter.
