Mary L. Rolston, 85 of Wagner
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, November 15, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Wagner. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, rural Geddes at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Friday from 11 am to 5 pm, followed by a 7:00 pm Rosary/Wake Service at the church.
Mary L. Rolston, daughter of Sigurd and Rose (Keogh) Paulsen, was born May 31, 1923 in Wagner, SD. She died Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. Mary attained the age of 85 years, five months and ten days.
Mary's family moved to Wisconsin when she was a child. They lived there a couple of years before returning to the Lake Andes area. Mary graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1941. Mary married Cleon "Tony" Rolston at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lake Andes on April 18, 1942. Four children were blessed to their union. Mary was a house wife and also worked at Pete's Cafe in Lake Andes as a waitress for over 20 years. Tony died August 23, 1990. Mary moved to Wagner in the Fall of 2000.
Mary was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and St. Mark's Altar Society in Lake Andes, St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner, and VFW Auxiliary. She also served as a White Swan School board member.
Mary will be remembered for her enjoyment of quilting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing and playing cards. She liked traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Carol Bonnett and husband John of Rapid City and Dennis and wife Mata of Davis, CA; daughters-in-law: Liz Rolston of Wagner and Diane Rolston of Yankton; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; two sons: James on August 23, 2006 and Richard on April 23, 2003; parents; two brothers: Dwight and Robert Paulsen; and two sisters: Esther Spencer and Sharon Paulsen who died as an infant.
