Memorial services will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Pickstown Community Church, NOT Saturday as originally published. The memorial visitation will start at 10:00am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am to be followed with a luncheon at the Rainbow Room. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Lola Maxine Castle, born February 1, 1916, age 95, died peacefully Tuesday night, March 1, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner.
Maxine was born in Cherokee, Iowa to Howard Burley and Lily Irene (Jones) Weaver. She was raised by her grandparents and mother. She attended Garfield Elementary and Cherokee High School.
Maxine married the love of her life, Woodrow Wayne Castle on September 13, 1934, in LeMars, Iowa. She followed Woodrow to his various service locations during World War II and in the mid 1940's they went on to start their family in South Dakota. Maxine was widowed in 1957.
Maxine worked at the Pickstown Grocery Store and later as postal clerk in Pickstown and Lake Andes until retirement. She was an active member of Pickstown Community Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Senior Citizens of Wagner.
Maxine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, drive in movies, crocheting and cooking. Maxine was a pioneer of Pickstown and longest living resident. She always spoke her mind, and called everyone "kid".
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Thankful for having shared her life are her son, Richard Wayne Castle of Tuscon, AZ; daughter, Pamela Kay (Castle) Hawk of Anchorage, AK; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Castle; son-in-law, Donald Vincent Hawk; six grandchildren: Jesse David Castle, Raithon Woodrow Clay, Thairon Castle Hawk, Jane Elizabeth Castle, Garrett Logan Hawk, and Sydney BreAnne Hawk; and great-grandson, Bishop Woodrow Clay.
She will be forever loved and missed.
