Melvin Hrdlicka, 89, of Wagner

Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Monday, June 2, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be Sunday at the church with the family present from 5 to 7 PM, followed by a 7 PM Prayer Service. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Frank Hrdlicka, son of Frank and Ella (Bartunek) Hrdlicka was born June 5, 1924 at Armour, SD. He died peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. He was six days shy of his 90th birthday.

Melvin went to Kennedy Country School until the 8th grade. He graduated from Ravinia High School in 1942.

Melvin was united in marriage to Vivian Cederburg on March 11, 1947 in Wagner, SD. Together they farmed north of Wagner their entire lives.

Melvin was a member of the Howard Township board and the United Methodist Church.

Melvin loved to square dance and polka dance. He loved to visit and drink coffee with all of his friends at Booms. Melvin also loved his John Deere tractors. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will also be remembered for his love of potato dumplings and Sour Cream Raisin Pie.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Vivian of Wagner; children: Tom (Linda) Hrdlicka of Armour; Janet (Francis) Lhotak of Wagner; and Eileen (Hardy) Steffen of Springfield; five grandchildren: Stacy Frost, Jodi Kost, Brad Lhotak, Jeremy Lhotak, Tiffany Hrdlicka, Jennifer Hrdlicka; and 13 great grandchildren.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, son Jim and his brother Lloyd.
