Mildred Voigt, 92, of Avon
Mildred died Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Tyndall, SD. Services are 11 AM, Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Avon. Burial is in the First Baptist Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 4 PM until 8 PM with the family present. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.
Mildred L. Voigt, daughter of Fred and Emma (Schmidt) Hebner, was born on a farm northeast of Avon, SD on September 27, 1915. It was on this farm that she spent a good deal of her life. Mildred died Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Tyndall, SD.
In January of 1926, Mildred accepted Christ as her Saviour. In May of the same year she was baptized by Rev. A. Lang and joined the Danzig Baptist Church in Avon. Later, she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Avon.
Mildred graduated from Avon High School in 1933. She attended Wheaton College in Chicago, IL and earned her Bachelors Degree from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD.
Mildred married Charles Voigt in 1947. Together they farmed until retirement in 1984, when they moved into Avon.
Mildred will be remembered for her love of music, art and reading. She taught for 20 years in high school and several rural schools . She also taught piano and was both church pianist and organist.
Mildred was a member of the W.M.F. and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Charles Voigt of the Tyndall Good Samaritan Center in Tyndall, SD; son, Philip and wife Louella Voigt of Luverne, MN; two grandchildren: Leah and husband Leland Potter of Madison, Wl; and Daniel and wife Blair Voigt of Anchorage, AK; sister-in-law, Delores Hebner of the Tyndall Good Samaritan Center in Tyndall, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Mark; and three brothers: Albert, Howard and Sidney Hebner
