Monica LeRoy, 53, of Lake Andes
Monica died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Funeral services are 2 PM, Friday, February 8, 2019 at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Burial is in St. Phillip's Episcopal Cemetery in Lake Andes. Wake services began Tuesday at the community center. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Monica Lynn (Flying Hawk) LeRoy was born February 25, 1965 to Alphonse and Lydia Flying Hawk. She was born and raised on the Yankton Sioux Reservation. She attended various schools. While in school, she participated in the marching band and was a cheerleader at M.I.S. She received her Associate of Arts degree in Human Services through Dakota Wesleyan University. Monica was active in many activities.
In 1980, Monica met her love, Everette Eugene LeRoy Sr. "Nig". They were united in marriage on February 25, 1989. From this union they had five children: Alphonse, Uriah, Elsie, Lydia and Clarice.
Monica loved to Pow-wow and Rock & Roll. She liked to dance, especially to the band "Aeriel".
Monica enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren the most. She will be remembered most for her laughter and hitting the Pow-wow trail.
She leaves to mourn her husband Everette "Nig" LeRoy of Lake Andes; sons Alphonse and Uriah; daughters: Elsie Lydia and Clarice; step sons Everette LeRoy Jr., Curtis LeRoy of Rapid City and Chris Redlightning of Lincoln, NE; step-daughter Jasmine LeRoy; grandchildren: Uriah Jr., Mariah, Mato Pejuta, David, Kellianna, and Cherish, all of Lake Andes, Leonardo of Winner, and Deacon Miller of Walt Hill, NE; other step-grandchildren; mother Lydia (Medicine Bear) Antelope; sisters: Mary Flying Hawk, Nancy Antelope, and Tanya Antelope; one auntie Bernice Medicine Bear of Ravinia; one uncle Robert Flying Hawk of Lake Andes; many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended grandchildren, her hunka sisters, brothers and pow-wow relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father Alphonse Flying Hawk; grandson Dreyson Miller; granddaughter Shyla O'Conner; paternal grandparents Raymond and Esther Flying Hawk; and maternal grandparents David and Elsie (Good Teacher) Medicine Bear.
