A memorial visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield, with family present. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers

Myrna K. Hempel, daughter of Marion and Bertha (Titland) Hatch, was born April 16, 1939 at Mobridge, SD. She died Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall. Myrna attained the age of 78 years, five months and nine days.

Myrna received her first twelve years of education in McLaughlin, graduating from McLaughlin High School. She then graduated from Yankton College with a two year degree and then earned her four year Bachelor of Science degree from Southern State College in Springfield. Myrna's teaching career began in Selby for two years and then she taught in Haywarden, IA for a year. She came to the Springfield area and taught at Tyndall and then finished her career at Springfield teaching first and second grade. Myrna retired in 2002.

Myrna married Robert Hempel on December 27, 1962 at the Congregational Church in McLaughlin. They made their home in Springfield and, throughout their marriage, lovingly raised five dogs: Jigger, Jay, Jip, Jar and Joe.

Myrna was a member of the United Church of Christ in Springfield, SDEA and Red Hats. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, TAU Chapter.

Myrna will be remembered as a great cook! She enjoyed playing Bridge and she dearly loved their dogs.

Due to failing health, Myrna became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall on August 6, 2015.

Thankful for having shared her life are her husband, Bob of Springfield; brother Richard and wife Sarah of Indiana; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and three sisters.
