Norbert Everett Picotte, Cante Tanka, 91, of Chamberlain

Norbert died Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Wake services are 7 PM, Thursday at the Marty Community Center in Marty. Funeral services are 11 AM, Friday, June 12, 2020 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Marty. Burial is in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery with military honors.

Norbert Everett Picotte was born on July third, nineteen twenty-eight at his home, half-mile southwest, of Marty, SD. His parents were Charles J. Picotte and Grace LaPointe Picotte.

He started school at St. Paul's Indian School and later went to Country County School, finishing up his grade school education at Dixon Public School in Montana. On August 15, 1946 Norbert answered his country's call and was drafted into the army. He was assigned for military duty in Seoul Korea serving with the 31st Infantry of the 7th Division. He was honorably discharged from military service on March 17, 1948.

Norbert worked on the construction of the Fort Randall Damn and then at St. Paul's Indian School as a bus driver and high school Auto Mechanics and Gas Welding teacher. He went on to attain his Associates of Science Degree in Automotive Technology and became a Professional Doctor of Motors.

On August 30, 1972 Norbert and Agnes Goes In Center were united in Holy Matrimony at St. Ignatius in Wanblee, SD.

Norbert was a kind, gentle and friendly relative to all. He enjoyed telling stories, jokes and laughing. He was very well respected and loved by his family, his coworkers, his students, and friends. He especially loved his daughter, granddaughter, and visiting with the younger generation.

He passed to the spirit world on June 9, 2020. He is proceeded in his journey by siblings Charles Picotte Jr., Bertha Brown Bear, Benedict Picotte, Harold Picotte Sr., and Vivian Gullikson. He is survived by his sister Evangeline (Vangie) Picotte, wife Agnes, daughter Mabel, granddaughter Evangeline and many nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.
