Olive Mae Gravatt, 57 of Lake Andes
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Marty, with burial in the parish cemetery,Marty. Wake services will be at the Marty Community Center in Marty starting Monday April 13, 2009.
Olive Mae Gravatt,"Wicahpi Sakowin Win", daughter of Jerome Chamberlain and Darlene Iron Shooter, was born July 4, 1951 at Marty, SD. She died Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner.
Ole Mae was raised by her Grandmother, Lucy Pretty Feather. She attended schools in Charles Mix County. When the Tribal Office was in Greenwood, she worked with the Elderly Program. Ole Mae also worked with children at the Big Ben Head Start, in addition to being a foster parent. She was a home school coordinator for Andes Central and also worked in Marketing and Entertainment at the Fort Randall Casino/Hotel.
Ole Mae married Glenn Gravatt in May of 1973. She loved her husband with all her heart. They loved to cook together for family occasions, such as holidays and birthdays. Glenn died February 16, 2008.
Ole Mae enjoyed fashion and fixing her hair in the latest styles. She had a wonderful smile, a love for people and for helping others. Ole Mae loved to play Bingo and spoil her grandchildren.
Ole Mae loved life. She will be cherished and loved by her children and family until they meet again. She was a wonderful Mother, wife, sister, Auntie, Grandma and friend.
She is survived by her daughters: Rose (Jerry) Nelson and Lana Gravatt; son, Eric (Linda) Gravatt; grandchildren: Maria, Tana, Ryan, Gunnar, Tommy, Ryan, Layla and Rizon; sisters: Arlene, Amy, Judy, Maryann, Cindy and Viola; brothers: Rick, Art and John; her only living Aunt, Sophia Archambeau; and cousins: Matilda "Tillie" Kills Plenty, Barbara Lundeen, Sylvester "Johnny" St. Pierre, Lynda Squirrel Coat, Roberta "Birdie" Taylor, Marvin Joe Lovell, Marlis Miller, Everdale Song Hawk, Arthur Dog Soldier and Mary McGhee.
Olive Mae was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, Grandma, parents, son, Baby Wayne, brother, Joe Chamberlain and cousin, Leslie Patterson.
