Ora Maye Wiechmann, 94, of Wagner
Visitation will be at the United Methodist Church in Wagner from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday. Funeral services are 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Ora Maye (Hollmann) Wiechmann, daughter of Paul and Ora Iola (Van Deusen) Hollmann, was born May 6, 1923 in Armour, SD. She died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center in Wagner. She attained the age of 94 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Ora Maye grew up on the Hollmann family farm near Armour, SD and graduated from Ravinia High School in Ravinia, SD in 1941. On May 14, 1941 she married Arthur Wiechmann and they lived and farmed north of Wagner where they raised their five children.
Ora Maye spent her earlier married life learning to hunt and fly, in fact she flew in Art's 1939 Piper Cub until 1948.
Ora Maye worked as a nurse's aide in the Wagner Hospital for 20 years. She worked in the Wagner School District driving school bus for many years. In her retired years she and Art enjoyed sitting at the Pickstown Visitor's Center. She loved to bake, read, knit, crochet and spend time visiting friends, grand and great grandchildren.
Ora Maye's passion was quilting and teaching others the art. She had a gift of color and design and made sure every family member had at least a few of her masterpieces.
In 2007, her husband Art passed away. She continued to live on the farm until 2014 when she moved to the Prairie Villa Assisted Living in Armour. In February of 2017 she moved to the Wagner Good Samaritan Center.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons: Douglas and wife Cecile of Ten Sleep, WY, Dwayne and wife Marlene of Brandon, Donald and wife Karen of Wagner; two daughters: Virginia Drake and husband Alfred of Platte, and Darlene Jameson and husband Marlin of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law Betty Hollmann of Armour; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ora Maye was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther Gail and husband Jerry; brothers Bill and wife Myrtle Hollmann and Harold Hollmann; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Emma Bromert, Jim and Edna Uecker, Albert and Ruby Wiechmann, Hugo and Clara Schaefer, and Deolores Wiechmann (in infancy).
