Ralph J. Koupal, 93 of Wagner

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner, with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner Tuesday from 11 am to 4 pm, followed by a 7:30 pm rosary/wake at the church.

Ralph James Koupal, son of Mike and Rose (Schuch) Koupal, was born March 18, 1916, north of Dante, SD. He died unexpectedly Friday, September 4, 2009 at his home in rural Wagner. Ralph attained the age of 93 years, five months and 17 days.

Ralph attended rural school through the eighth grade and Wagner High School for two years.

Ralph married Emma Marie Soukup on September 18, 1939 in Dante, SD. Ralph and Emma would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in a few weeks. They lived on a farm south of Wagner all of their married life.
Ralph was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner and Knights of Columbus for 69 years. He ran the K of C Bowling Tournament for years. Ralph was secretary of Ree #1 Country School and was chairman of the Bohemian Mutual Insurance until it dissolved.

Ralph was an avid golfer and bowler up until his death. He also enjoyed watching all sports. Ralph had a great love for his wife Emma and his family. He enjoyed visiting with friends.

Thankful for sharing his life are his wife Emma of rural Wagner; four sons: Dennis and wife Rose of Wagner, Larry and wife Anita of North Carolina, Donald and wife Theresa of Wagner, and Jim and wife Renee' of Sioux Falls; two daughters: Lois Potter and husband Lawrence of New Jersey and Margene Roeder of Nebraska; 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; two brothers: Steve and wife Helen of Wagner and Mike and wife Sharon of Yankton; two sisters: Kathryn Slaba of Wagner and Maxine Lovelace of Ohio; sister-in-law, Anna Koupal of Wagner; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Jordon Koupal; four brothers: Charles, Leonard, Anton and Joe; and two sons-in-law: Cleo Broz and Harold Roeder.
