Richard D. Hoffman, 85, of Wagner
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, rural Wagner. Burial is in the church cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Richard D. Hoffman was born August 4, 1933 at Wagner, SD the son of William and Gertrude (Stofer) Hoffman. He died Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner.
Dick graduated from Wagner High School in 1951. He served in the US Army in Japan during the Korean War.
Dick was united in marriage to Mavis Barkley on January 24, 1951 at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church. He worked at Crabb's Locker for about 10 years and drove school bus for seven years. He always got along great with kids of all ages. Dick worked as insurance agent for American Family and served the area for 25 years.
Dick was a very active member of the Wagner community. He served on the Wagner Community Hospital Board from 1975 to 1995. He served on the Wagner Fire Department for 30 years and also served as fire chief. Dick was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church for over 60 years.
Dick will be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting and traveling. He was also an avid Vikings fan and loved playing cards.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Mavis of Wagner, son Richard Kenneth Hoffman and wife Janet of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren, Miranda (Adam) Scholes and their two children Alivia and Avary of Sioux Falls and Heidi (Heath) Thompson and their kids, Aubree, Archer and Anders of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Betty (Keith) Deurmier of Armour and Marge Hall of Wagner and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents three sisters: Maxine Coin, Irene Ullrich and Helen Pauley; and four brothers: Ward, Wayne, Robert and Clifford Hoffman.
