Richard H. Voigt, 87 of Avon
His funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Danzig Baptist Church in rural Avon, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Avon from 1 pm to 5 pm, followed by a 7 pm prayer service at the church.
Richard Harry Voigt, son of George and Nellie (Verdos) Voigt, was born March 20, 1922 on a farm southeast of Avon. He died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall. Richard attained the age of 87 years, two months and 12 days.
Richard attended the Voigt Country School and then graduated from Avon High School in 1940.
Richard married Ruth Mattis on June 31, 1942. Two children were born to this union: Larry and Loxie. Ruth died June 17, 1971. Richard married Velda Berndt in 1979. They farmed in the Avon area until they retired and moved into Avon in 1987.
Richard was baptized and a member of the First Baptist Church in Avon and later transferred to the Danzig Baptist Church. He served as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and an active member of the Men's Brotherhood.
Richard will be remembered for his enjoyment of making woodwork projects.
Thankful for having shared his life are his wife, Velda of Avon; son Larry of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Loxie and husband Duane Murra of Sioux Falls; step son Randy Berndt and wife Karen; step daughter Cheryl and husband Roger Odegaard of Rapid City; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Margaret Voigt of Sioux Falls; a brother-in-law, Herman Kaul of Tyndall; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth, parents, a brother, Matthew and an infant brother, Keneth, three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
