Richard West, 72, of Springfield

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 PM (family will not be present) at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield. Private funeral services will be held with burial in St. Vincent's Catholic Cemetery, rural Springfield. A Celebration Of Dick's Life will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Monday at the Springfield Golf Course clubhouse.

Richard Charles West was born May 31, 1945 at Ames, IA, the son of Richard C. and Shirley (Luken) West. He died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home in Springfield.

Dick graduated in 1963 from St. Edmonds High School in Ft. Dodge, IA. He married Margaret Hofer on October 2, 1970 at Scotland. In 1975, Dick and his family moved to Tripp, SD, where he and his dad owned and operated West LP Gas & Appliance, as well as Gas Services, Inc. in Scotland and Springfield.

During the summers Dick was a crop hail adjuster for Crop Hail Mgmt. He moved quickly up the corporate ladder, becoming a Regional Executive for the Pacific Northwest. He was Regional Vice President with Fireman's Fund, with moves to Spokane, WA, Overland Park, KS, Fargo, ND, and Fresno, CA. In 2002, Dick retired to Baxter, IA, and then in 2010 when his wife retired, they moved back to the family home in Springfield, SD.

Dick loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with his friends, playing in tournaments, and boating with his family.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Margaret West of Springfield; five children: Deb Waddell of Urbandale, IA, Chuck (Jean) West of Adel, IA, Andrea (Mark) Parzyk of Lancaster, CA, Michael West of Springfield and Jordan West of Springfield; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Waddell Mackenzie, Connor Waddell, Noah Waddell, Jacob West, Matthew West, Anna West and John Parzyk; two sisters, Linda West of Omaha, NE and Margie Bame of Abilene, TX; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
