Roger DeGroot, 82, of Springfield

Roger died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 3-5 P.M., with military honors at 4 P.M. at Peters Funeral Home in Springfield, SD.

Roger Lee DeGroot, 82, of Springfield, SD died Tuesday May 16 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Roger Lee DeGroot was born to Joseph and Pearl (DeRoos) DeGroot at Grama DeRoos's house in Running Water, SD on March 14, 1941, the second of four children.

Roger graduated from Springfield High School in 1959. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army in November of 1963. He served with the 1st infantry division "The Big Red One" of Fort Riley, Kansas. In 1965, the 1st Infantry division got sent to Vietnam. In November of 1965, Roger's enlistment was done. He returned home and worked on the family farm until he retired in 2022.

Roger is survived by his sister JoEllen Wormsbecher of Avon and brother Gary (Sandra) DeGroot of Springfield.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Pearl DeGroot, sister Sharon Kosters, and brothers-in-law: Earl Kosters and Elmer Wormsbecher.
