Sandra Baier, 78, of Delmont

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, March 7, 2025 at Hope Lutheran Church in Delmont. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 6-7 PM, followed by a 7 PM Prayer Service.

Sandra Kay Baier was born at Parkston, SD on August 30, 1946, the daughter of Calvin and Florence (Carpenter) Berry. Sandra passed away peacefully after a 4 year courageous battle with cancer in which she never gave up hope or her tremendous faith in our Lord. She was surrounded by the love of family and friends when she was called Home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Sandra graduated from Delmont High School in 1964. She earned her BA in Education from Dakota Wesleyan University. She then earned her Master's Degree in Reading and Library Science from Sioux Falls College.

Sandra married Joel Baier on June 26, 1966 at Hope Lutheran Church in Delmont. This union was the start of 59 precious years together which blessed them with four children that she cherished greatly.  During those years, you rarely found one without the other as they displayed an amazing unconditional love.

Sandy's career spanned multiple talents which were all different with the common thread of touching lives with her transparent love and caring. She was a beloved English Teacher and Librarian in communities in SD and IA for over 30 years. Her last 17 years she taught at Armour High School. In addition to teaching Sandy was an avid seamstress and worked in upholstery.  She also used her compassion as an EMT and volunteer firefighter within the community (first female volunteer firefighter in Cherokee County).  She loved music and taught piano. She also was a talented artist and painted pictures for the grandchildren that they cherish.

Her grandchildren each hold special memories of her in their heart. A few of their memories are: "I love how supportive she is. She never fails to remind me how proud she is and how much she loves me. Her encouragement and belief in me means everything." ~ Tori Booth

"I will remember grandma for how she made everyone around her feel special and loved, and her unwavering support." ~ Carter Baier

"I liked waking up early with Grandma to go to the toy room where she told me about being a volunteer fire fighter and her career as a librarian." ~ Holden Campbell

"I always loved how thoughtful and kind she was and how she would go out of her way to do things for us." ~ Cade Baier

"I always enjoyed when grandma had candies out on her tables and she let me eat however much I wanted. I also always enjoyed her cucumbers and ranch."  ~ Hannah Baier

"I liked it when Grandma would sit outside on the bench at the farm and pet the kitties with me."  ~ Seth Baier

"I always liked how grandma had kitties, specifically Mamma Kitty.  She let me have as much ice cream as I wanted." ~ Emilia Campbell

Thankful for having shared her life are her husband Joel of Delmont, four children: Reese (Lisa) Baier of Sioux Falls and their children Hannah and Seth, Kallie (Patrick) Booth of Sioux Falls and their daughter Tori, Teresa (Reed) Campbell of Omaha, NE and their children Holden and Emilia, and son Ryan Joel Baier and his sons Carter and Cade of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law Betty Berry of Sioux Falls; niece Ava (Steve) Mahne of Sioux Falls and her son Bryce Bucheim and her daughter Lyndsay (Brett) Keller; and nephew Vincent (Kari) Berry of Sioux Falls and their daughters Shayla Berry and Brooke Berry.
