Sophia Archambeau, 95, of Lake Andes
Funeral services were 1 PM, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Burial was in the Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery in Greenwood. Wake services began Monday at the White Swan Community Center. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Sophia Rosalie Song Hawk-Pretty Feather-Archambeau of Choteau Creek, SD, entered into rest Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital. She was born September 7, 1920, the daughter of Josephine Pretty Feather and Moses Song Hawk.
Unci attended Marty Indian School in Marty, SD. She gave birth to 13 children: Delbert Dog Soldier, Maynard Dog Soldier, Roberta Taylor, Joseph Lovell, Marlene Lovell, Marlys Miller, Everdale Song Hawk, Judy Dog Soldier, Mary Dog Soldier, Anita Bazmore, Arthur Dog Soldier, Theresa Dog Soldier, and Kenneth Archambeau, Sr.
Sophia married her last husband Homer Archambeau in the 80's. To this union, they had one son together Kenneth Archambeau, SR. and adopted five grandchildren: Tamara Whirlwind Horse, Wade Archambeau, Craig Ross , Kenneth Archambeau, Jr, and Andrea Archambeau.
Unci worked cleaning homes, taking care of elder adults, and doing various farm work. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren fishing, playing rummy, marbles, dominoes, cross word puzzles, and attending church every Sunday at Rev. Troyer's church in Lake Andes, SD. She loved attending pow-wows, carnivals and parades. She enjoyed getting out of her house and going for cruises to Mitchell and Yankton to do rummage shopping at Goodwill. She liked making star quilts, and sewing regalia costumes together with her grandchildren. She made all her own dresses and under slips. Cooking was one of her specialties. She loved making homemade soup, skillet rounds, fry bread, rolls and Wojapi. She also loved cherry funnel cakes that she craved when Fish Days and Labor Day rolled around. Her family got together with her every year to celebrate her birthday. She had a love for animals, cats, dogs, birds, chickens and roosters. Her favorite TV shows were "Wheel of Fortune", "Price Is Right", "Walker Texas Ranger", "Little House on the Prairie" and old western movies. Her grandchildren were precious to her and she held them very close to her heart. She raised a lot of her grandchildren until the day she left us. She will be remembered for always having a generous, loving, forgiving heart. We all have gained a form of growth from her wisdom and guidance. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
