Sophia Agnes Williams was born October 4, 1954 in Wagner, SD to the late Francis and Hazel (Simmons) Ashes. She passed away suddenly at her home in Gastonia, NC on August 19, 2014 of natural causes. She attained the age of 59 years 10 month and 15 days.
Wake services were held on August 23rd and August 24th, 2014 at the Wagner Armory. Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 2pm with Mike Horned Eagle and James "JC" Crawford officiating.
Cissy went to Andes Central then transferred to Ft. Sill Indian School in Lawton, OK and graduated in 1974. In 1974, Cissy had her only child, Anthony Ashes. She moved on and off the reservation until she joined the US Army. She proudly served her country for 8 years. After being honorably discharged, Cissy came back to SD and worked one year at the Fort Randall Casino as a security guard. After working here, she moved to NC where she resided until her untimely passing.
Cissy became engaged to Virgil Swencey this year and was to be married at the end of September. She worked at Southeastern Metal Products for 19 years.
She will be remembered for her outgoing, vivacious personality, bubbly laugh, and for living and enjoying life to the fullest.
Thankful for sharing her life are her son, Anthony and his wife Pam; fiance, Virgil Swencey; two grandbabies Antoina Fontaine and Jade Lynn; one great granddaughter Brianne Rae; one stepdaughter Carol ( Harry) Johnson; three step grandchildren; six sisters; Francine Musgrove, Dallas, TX, Wilma Ashes, Lake Andes, SD, Natalie Medicine Bear, Wagner, SD, Ellen Ashes, Ida Brown and Melissa Ashes all of Lake Andes, SD; three brothers, Raymond Blacksmith, White Shield, ND, Gary Aungie, Wagner, SD, and Marlin Ashes, San Francisco, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
