Stanley Voigt, 90, of Avon

Funeral Services are 1:30 P.M., Friday, January 12, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Avon. Burial is in the Baptist Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation is at the church on Thursday from 4 to 5:30 PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 5:30. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Albert Voigt was born on a farm near Avon, SD on March 5, 1927, the son of Albert and Emma (Jucht) Voigt. He passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Stan attained the age of 90 years, 10 months and three days.

Stan graduated from Avon High School in 1945. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a tank crewman in the 73rd Tank Battalion, 7th Division.

Stan was united in marriage to Mary Ann Jackson at Flandreau on September 6, 1957. Stan and Mary shared 60 years of happily married life. Stan lived his entire life on the family farm until September of 2016. He loved life on the farm and raising cattle.

Stan was baptized on May 27, 1945 by Rev. P. Geissler and joined the First Baptist Church on June 3, 1945. He served many years as the church clerk and held many offices within the church. He served on the Avon School Board, where he was President for several years. Stan was also active in Prison Fellowship.

Stan will be remembered for his love for his children and grandchildren and his love of music. He was very musical. He played the piano, the trumpet and he loved singing in a barber shop quartet. Stan also enjoyed gardening, and he loved animals, especially his dogs.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Mary Ann Voigt of Tyndall; two daughters, Julie (Jim) Ruppelt of Lincoln, NE, and Lisa (Micah) Spaulding of Cartersville, GA; four grandchildren: Jennifer Ruppelt of Montevideo, Uruguay, Stephanie (Kevin) von Kampen of Tampa, FL, Noah and Abigail Spaulding of Cartersville, GA; a sister, Althea Siverson of Ft. Collins, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, a brother, Milton Voigt and a sister, Ethel Cato.
