Teresa A. Flynn, was the second bouncing strawberry blonde girl born to the union of of the late Leo M. and Hattie T. Flynn of Wagner, SD. Born on October 29, 1957 at Garrison, North Dakota, Teresa joined her three siblings and parents when the Flynn family later moved back to Wagner after Leo finished work with various dam projects across the USA for the Bureau of Reclamation. Teresa attended Wagner Community School, and joined the Army at age 18. Later in her life, she received her Bachelor's degree and went on to attain her M.A. in Counseling in 2001, at Doane College in Crete, NE.
Her illustrious Army career spanned the states of Mississippi, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and culminated in Hanau, Germany. Teresa then moved to Omaha, NE, for a short time, before assuming a full time position as Assistant Inspector General with the Judge Adjutant's General's office, in Lincoln, NE. Furthermore, she was an active duty National Guard soldier in the Joint Force HQ, also in Lincoln.
During her distinguished military career, Teresa received many honors and accolades, including letters of distinction and innumerable medals of commendation for her service. The military (both active duty Army, position as Assistant "IG", and her position in the National Guard) meant a great deal to her, as did the recognition of fellow soldiers and Veterans. Teresa retired from the military and National Guard careers, collectively, after 35 years of service in March 2013.
Teresa was an avid animal lover (especially cats), and volunteered at the Nebraska Humane Society in Lincoln, NE, especially being involved in feeding feral cats. Furthermore, she volunteered for the Red Cross, where she frequently assisted with blood drives. For a short time, she volunteered at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, as well. Her hobbies included yoga, gardening, reading, walking and other forms of exercise.
Teresa is deeply loved by her family and will be dearly missed until we are all reunited in Heaven. Preceding her in death were her father, Leo M. Flynn of Wagner, SD; a most cherished sister-in-law, Beverly Flynn of Omaha, NE and her beloved aunt Charlene Gollnick of Yankton, SD; and others too numerous to mention. Teresa departed this Earth for Heaven, with the hopes of uniting with Jesus Christ & our Lord God Almighty on Saturday, June 18, in the year of our Lord, 2016, in West Des Moines, IA.
She is survived by her mother, Hattie T. Flynn, Wagner, SD; Emma M. Flynn, Scotland, SD; Patrick F. Flynn, Omaha, NE; and Barbara L. Flynn, Glenwood, IA; seven nieces; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
