Thelma D. Carda, 78 of Wagner

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, April 11, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner, with burial in the parish cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner from 11:30 am to 5 pm Friday, followed by a 7 pm Rosary/Wake service at the church.

Thelma Darlene Carda, daughter of Fred and Mary (Crofutt) Smith, was born July 14, 1930 at Wagner, SD. She died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner, SD. Thelma attained the age of 78 years, eight months and 22 days.

Thelma attended and graduated from Ravinia High School. She married Frank Carda on June 27, 1949. She was a farm wife and homemaker for 22 years. After retiring and moving to town, she worked 15 years as a cook for the head start and then worked 19.5 years as a cook for the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner. She retired in April of 2006. Due to failing health, she spent the last three weeks at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner.

Thelma spent her life caring for her family. She was loving and always giving of herself to family, friends and anyone who needed her. She loved to bake, especially kolaches and banana bread for family, friends, staff and residents at the Good Samaritan Center. She also loved to sew, do crossword puzzles and have coffee time with friends.

Thankful for having shared her life are two daughters: Donna Ishmael and husband Walt of Gallup, NM and Brenda Meiers and fiancee' Rodney Hrdlicka of Yankton, SD; three sons: Larry Carda of Wagner, Gary Carda and wife Pam of Wagner, and Dave Carda and wife Nancy of Park River, ND; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers: Tommy Smith and wife Mary of Texas, Lyle Smith of New Hampshire, and Glen Smith and wife Ann of Iowa; two sisters: Elaine Doerkson and husband Bob of Colorado and Leota Vollmer of Oregon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank, parents, three brothers: Clifford, Charles and John Smith; one sister, Lorraine Fuchs and grandson, Stephen Carda.
