Theresa Culver, 63, of Avon

Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Tyndall. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avon. Visitation is at St. Leo's Catholic Church on Monday from 5-7 PM. The service will be live-streamed on the Peters Funeral Home/Wagner,SD Facebook live page.

Theresa Leann Culver was born January 19, 1961, in Wessington Springs, SD, the daughter of Darwin and Darlene (Georgen) Peterson. She died Friday, January 17, 2025 at St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall.

Theresa graduated from Castlewood High School in 1979. She attended Lake Area Technical College and earned an LPN degree in 1980. She graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1987 with an Associates Degree in Nursing.

Theresa married Tom Culver on July 31, 1982 in Mitchell. They lived in Alexandria. Their daughter Christena was born in March of 1984. They lived in Watertown, Viborg and Wakonda where Theresa worked as a nurse and Tom in education. They settled in Avon in the summer of 1999. Theresa worked in hospitals and spent the last 20 years nursing at the Good Samaritan Society in both Wagner and Tyndall. She retired in January of 2024 after 43 years as a nurse.

Theresa will remembered for her love for her grandchildren. She loved her shopping trips with the girls and their sporting events. She loved supporting Tom's teams and cheering for the kids and now cheering for her grandkids. The was also well known for pulling practical jokes on everyone.

Thankful for having shared her life are her husband Tom of Avon; daughter Christena and husband Gregg Voigt of Avon; five grandchildren: Macy, Jordyn, Brielle, Tyson and Riggs; father Darwin and wife Janie Peterson of Mitchell; sister Mary and husband Duane Letcher of Alexandria; brother Dan Peterson of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law Joy Peterson of Hill City; brothers-in law Monte Culver of Mitchell and Terry and wife Kim Culver of CA; sisters-in-law: Brenda and husband Mark Kreutzfeldt of Madison and Kim and husband Kevin Van Overschelde of Mitchell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Theresa was preceded in death by her mother Darlene Peterson, brother James Peterson, uncle Doug Peterson and cousin Michael Peterson.
