Vaslav James C. Placek, 90 of Wagner
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, rural Dante. Visitation will be 12 noon to 5 pm Friday at Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Vaslav James C. Placek, son of Joseph and Antonia (Slaba) Placek, was born June 7, 1919 on the family farm near Dante, SD. He died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner. Jim attained the age of 90 years, two months and 20 days.
Jim attended country school near Dante. He farmed with his parents for a number of years and also worked as a farm hand for many farmers in the area. When his health started to fail, he moved to an apartment in Wagner. When he could no longer live alone, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner on May 16, 2005.
Jim was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Catholic Church in Dante. He will be remembered for his enjoyment of fishing.
Thankful for having shared his life are several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Alouis and Joseph; and two sisters: Mary Placek Kocmick and Elsie Placek Skorpik.
