Velda Peters, 85 of Wagner
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner, with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, with family present from 5 to 6 at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Velda Ilene Peters was born on a farm southwest of Tripp on April 27, 1931, the daughter of Emil and Katherine (Tesky) Permann. She died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital. Velda attained the age of 85 years, eight months and 30 days.
Velda attended country school southwest of Tripp through the eighth grade. She was confirmed at the New Salem Reformed Church in Delmont on March 25, 1945.
Velda married Elmer J. Peters on December 10, 1948 at the Delmont Gymnasium in Delmont. Together they farmed and lived in the Delmont area until moving to a farm northeast of Wagner in 1957. They moved into Wagner in 1973. She worked at the Wagner Good Samaritan Center from 1974 to 1978. Velda was the owner/operator of the King Koin Laundromat from 1978 until retiring in 1995. Due to failing health, she entered the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner in October of 2001.
Velda was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and St. John LWML.
Velda will especially be remembered for her love for her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, going to the races and chocolate candy.
Thankful for having shared her life are her two sons: Tyrone and wife Mariana Peters and Stanley and wife Rosemary Peters, all of Wagner; two daughters: Kathleen Peters and Ken Thomas of Gillette, WY and Vicky Kuhlman and husband Dennis of Wagner; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Delores Peters and Velda Jerke, both of Wagner and Mary Ann Peters of Corsica; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Velda was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on December 23, 2003; parents; four brothers: Harold, Gilbert, Willard and Arben; and three sisters: Lorraine Schwaderer, Alice Stolz and Darlene Weisser.
