Violet Raabe, 94, of Wagner
Funeral services are 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM, followed by a 6 PM Prayer Service at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
Violet Raabe was born in Forbes, ND on January 6, 1921, the daughter of August and Katherina (Eichelberg) Ott. She died Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Morningside Manor in Alcester, SD.
Violet graduated from high school in Leola, SD in 1938. She married Fred Raabe on July 25, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner, SD. Together they farmed southwest of Wagner before moving to Ravinia, SD in 1958. Violet was the Postmistress in Ravinia for many years. She also worked at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner for many years until her retirement. Violet moved to Larchwood, IA in 2010 and became a resident of Morningside Manor in July of 2013.
Violet was very active in her church. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she served in the LWML, sang in the choir, and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years.
Violet will be remembered for her love of knitting, especially afghans, painting, and for being a voracious reader.
Thankful for having shared her life are her four daughters: Kate and husband Paul Cerny of Kalispell, MT; Wanda and husband Niel Anderson of Delmont, SD; Judith and husband Jerry Simkins of Larchwood, IA; and Karen and husband Larry Crichton of Larchwood, IA; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lillian and husband Newton Mapes of Evenville, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred on August 21, 1995; granddaughter Rozelle Anderson and sister Esther Carda.
