Obituary

Willa Mae Kirwan, 74, of Ft. Randall, SD

Willa died peacefully at her home in Ft. Randall, SD on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Funeral Memorial Mass will be 10 AM, Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Inurnment will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Rosary/Wake services are 7 PM, Tuesday at the church.

Willa was born on October 7, 1938 in DeNorte, Colorado, the daughter of John and Bertha Glatz. She went to grade school in the San Louis Valley in Monte Vista and Saquche, Colorado. Willa attended Climax High School when her family moved to Climax, CO. Climax is the highest town in the United States since it is located at 11,300 feet. Their high school experience was unique in that everyone who attended has kept close friendships all of their lives.

Willa met her future husband, Mike Kirwan at a Sadie Hawkens Dance in Climax. They were married on April 29, 1957 and made their first home in Leadville, CO. Mike worked at the Climax Molybdenum Mine during their early years of married life and Willa was a homemaker. To this union their six children were born: Jean Ann, Edward, Teresa, Marita, Kathleen, and Micky. Mike's father passed away suddenly in 1963 and they moved back to the family farm in Fort Randall. They raised their family and were married for 55 years.

Willa loved to keep in touch with family and friends through the computer. She loved HGTV and trying out new recipes.

Willa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Willa passed away December 8, 2012 on the date of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. To all of us who know her we know about her devotion to the Virgin Mother and this date has great significance to her faith.

Willa is survived by her husband Mike of Ft. Randall, SD; children: Jean Ann (Mike) Crowe, Sioux Falls, SD; Edward (Guldara) Kirwan, Coeur d Alene, ID; Teresa (Jerry) Volesky, North Platte, NE; Marita (John) Rieckman, Clay Center, NE; Kathleen Kirwan, Los Angeles, CA and Micky (Julie) Kirwan, Castlewood, SD; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a sister, Linda Baty of Monte Vista, CO.

Willa was preceded in death by her parents.
