Bill passed away peacefully at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, MN on February 14, 2017, while holding the hands of his loved ones. A devoted father, loving grandpa, and dear friend, Bill brought hearty laughter and joy to the world. We are grateful for the wonderful memories and will mis him dearly.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed sitting in goose pits with friends, fishing on Francis Case, driving his new red Corvette, and traveling the country with his dear friend, Carol. Later in life, Bill developed fondness for reading history books and watching eagles and water fowl soar across the lake. Warm, caring and sociable, Bill loved to entertain his friends and share his love of cooking with them. His grandchildren raved about Grandpa Bill's scrambled eggs.
Bill loved his youth growing up on a farm outside of Meckling, SD. Baling hay and raising cattle were among his favorite farm chores. Active in his high school community, Bill sand and played multiple sports. His love of building and racing cars started at an early age, as Bill spent much of his free time as a high schooler building stock cars. Bill grew up attending Bergan Lutheran Church. After graduating from the University of South Dakota-Springfield, Bill joined the Navy to serve our country during the Vietnam War. Bill's bravery and expert-level skills were honored, and he was Honorably Discharged as a highly-decorated Veteran.
After completing his tours in Vietnam, Bill taught and coached at the high school in Lake Andes. Bill often spoke of his many wonderful memories teaching Industrial Arts and of the joys he experienced coaching. After teaching in the high school system, Bill sold commercial roofing products nationally and ultimately owned Ida Grove Roofing and Improvement, a commercial roofing company in Ida Grove, IA. Highly-regarded as a businessman and as a member of the community, Bill served on many business boards and volunteered with the youth of his parish.
