Wilma Olsen, 81, of Avon

Funeral services are 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 6, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. Visitation will be at the church Sunday from 2 PM until 6 PM followed by a 6 PM Prayer Service. Burial is in the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Mae Olsen was born February 27, 1928 in the Geddes Hospital in Geddes, SD, the daughter of Ernest and Jannatta (Uken) Gibson. She died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Wilma attained the age of 81 years and one month.

Wilma grew up and attended school south of Wagner. She moved with her family to a farm south of Avon in 1943, at the age of 15. She attended and graduated from Avon High School. After graduation she taught rural schools in Bon Homme County and worked at the Tyndall Nursing Home and Hospital.

Wilma married Herb Olsen on May 25, 1948. They farmed south of Avon until Herb's death on April 22, 2002. Wilma then moved into the Meadow View Manor in Avon.

Wilma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Ladies Aid and also the Avon American Legion Auxiliary.

Wilma will be remembered for her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very generous and giving person. Wilma was also a woman of great faith who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thankful for having shared her life are her son, Dennis Olsen of Meckling; daughter, Diane and husband Jerry Bastemeyer of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren: Denise and husband, Chad Peterson of Vermillion, Angela and husband, Terry O'Neill of Henry, Chadwick Olsen and fiance', Amy Haase of Tea, and Amber and husband, Robb Lindner of Sioux Falls; six great grandchildren and one to be born at the end of April and one in November; sister, Verna and husband Glen Jerke of Dante; two brothers: Norman and wife Shirley Gibson of Dante, Gary and wife Linda Gibson of Tyndall; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Herb, her parents, sister, Betty Grimme, infant brother, Charles Gibson and a nephew.
